Greatness Grows at Lumen Christi
This Saturday, our girls’ Cross Country Team (and boys’ Cross Country team runner Gene Hendrickson!) will be participating in the state Cross Country competition.
As part of their traditions, the girls’ create encouraging locker signs for one another weekly. This week, one of the lockers read:
Greatness has no peak. Somehow, we’ve come to believe that greatness is only for the chosen few, for the superstars. The truth is, greatness is for us all. This is not about lowering expectations; it’s about raising them for every last one of us. Greatness is not in one special place and it’s not in one special person. Greatness is wherever somebody is trying to find it.
No matter the running times tomorrow, these young women (and man!) are already champions. They already know that it is not enough to be good at something easy, but that greatness comes from being good at something really hard. Every time they push through rain, cold, cramps, blisters, they become greater.
It is a call for all of us — try the hard thing. Do the hard thing. Run the hard race. Take the hard class. Do something brand new. Stand up. Stand out.
Be great. Go Titans!
