Donate or Purchase iPads for Teacher Projects

From the Media Center:  If you or someone in your family has an iPad that they don’t use anymore we would gladly accept it as a donation to our loaner program.  We try to keep a few loaner iPads on hand for when a student’s iPad is not working properly or if a teacher has a special project.  If you have any questions or want to make arrangements to donate, please call Mrs. Eileen Lienhart in the library/media center at 787-0630 ext. 256.

Grief Counseling Group

From Mrs. Garred:  Mrs. Garred will be starting a 5-week grief and loss group beginning the week of February 12.  If your student is experiencing grief and loss in a way that impacts them in more than one area of their life, please encourage them to sign up with Mrs. Garred the week of February 5, or e-mail Mrs. Garred at agarred@myjacs.org.  While spaces are limited for the group, Mrs. Garred will follow up with each student in terms of whether or not they are able to be a part of the group this session and for a 1:1 meeting to discuss coping strategies.

Lunch Money

From Cafeteria:  Please check your student lunch balances consistently.  We never refuse a student from eating a meal.  However if your student is carrying a negative lunch account balance (unless they have cash) we can decline their ability to buy additional food items, for example, an extra milk, a sandwich or any food item which is not offered as part of the main meal.  Please encourage your students to ask the cashiers with any questions they may have.  Sign up to access your student’s lunch balance here.

Valentine’s Day Celebration

From the Main Office:  We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 13 this year, as February 14 is Ash Wednesday and we will be fasting.  If your student is bringing any treats to school, please send them on the 13th and remember — no nuts!

Focus Award

From the Deans: Now that second semester is underway, we are ready to revive our 7th and 8th grade focus reward!  Beginning the week of February 5, any 7th or 8th grade student that has no Owed Times or Detentions and no missing Assignments for two weeks (through February 16) will earn a reward dress down day (sweats included!) for Friday, February 23rd.  Please talk with your student over the weekend to set goals and make a plan for how they can achieve this reward!

ACT Testing

From Mr. Havlicek: Juniors and Parents: Thank you to all the Juniors who set up meetings with Mr. H to go over college planning immediately after the Christmas Holiday! It was awesome to see those students taking full responsibility for their futures. If you or your student has not set up a meeting time to go over their college planning with Mr. H, you are encouraged to make that happen as soon as possible. Also, ACT testing happens on February 27th; so now is the time for the students to begin working through practice problems in order to prepare for this important examination.

The MAN Event

From the Theology Department: The 2018 Diocese of Lansing’s Men’s Conference, The MAN Event, is set for Saturday, February 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Michigan Center. Tuition Assistance and Diocesan Scholarship

From the Main Office:  Tuition Assistance and Diocesan Scholarship: Now is the time to apply for Lumen Christi tuition assistance for the 2018-2019 school year.  Application is made through FACTS Grant and Aid Financial Needs Assessment.  To begin your application, please visit the Lumen Christi website www.jcslumenchristi.org and click on “Tuition Assistance Application” under the Quicklinks tab.   This one application determines your eligibility for both the Diocese of Lansing Scholarship (available to Catholic families with students in grades 6 – 11) and Lumen Christi tuition assistance.    The deadline for submitting applications for tuition assistance  for BOTH the Diocese of Lansing and Lumen Christi is March 1, 2018.

I had a struggling math student and after working with Delton, the light bulb went off.  My student is feeling more confident and encouraged about future success!  The tutors need to know their contribution has a rippling effect into our classrooms, homes, and lives!  We appreciate them so much!
