History

LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC SCHOOL was opened in 1968 as a result of the determination of the Catholic Community of Jackson to build a modern educational  school that would serve the varied educational needs of all the Catholic youth of Jackson.

Our school is governed by a local Board of Trustees under the direction of the Bishop of Lansing.  We are supported and maintained by the following Catholic Parishes: St John the Evangelist, St. Mary Star of the Sea, Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of the Miraculous Medal, St Rita, and St. Catherine Laboure.

The total area of our school encompasses 172,700 square feet. The educational concept of the interior presents a departmentalized system with practical flexibility to meet new and changing educational demands. Vital to the education of our students is a comprehensive Resource Center and Library with seating capacity of 265. The 180-foot diameter domed gymnasium seats 3000 people for athletic and community events along with both a wrestling and weight room. The cafetorium (combined cafeteria and auditorium) with complete kitchen facilities, accommodates 500 for dining and approximately 700 for assemblies or other social functions.

LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC SCHOOL ranks among the finest Catholic high schools in the State of Michigan.

Our philosophy

The philosophy of Lumen Christi can be summed up in three words: religion, education, and discipline. By guiding students in all three, we prepare them to be successful after high school, whether they are headed to college, the workplace, or the military.

Religion

Lumen Christi Catholic School believes that Catholic education is an expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus to the Church He founded.Through education, the Church seeks to transform its members and all of society to a wholesome and holy life. We at Lumen Christi believe that the intelligent person is one who has learned to choose wisely according to Gospel values, and thus lives in the Light of Christ.

Education

The academic excellence of Lumen Christi students speaks for itself. When compared to other schools in Jackson and nearby areas, the MME results show significantly more Lumen Christi students met or exceeded Michigan Standards for all six subjects. Average ACT score is 22.6, considerably higher than the state average of 18.8. 98% of Lumen Christi graduates continue to higher education.

Discipline

Discipline does not simply mean rules and punishment. We hope help students become disciples of Christ, and to develop the skills of self-discipline which will help them succeed in all areas of life. We do this by giving the students consistent expectations and holding them accountable--and most importantly, by taking the time to know and love them. With an average class size of only 22, we are able to give students the individual attention they deserve.
